We have enjoyed a good year over the 2015-16 year. We have been able to donate $2000 to our own Heritage group which has been working with Dr. Helen Raptis at the University of Victoria on providing a permanent home and expansion of our collection. Our membership has continued to grow as retired teachers from all over the province continue to move to our city and the Island generally. This makes us not only one of the largest of the BCRTA locals but c also probably the oldest on average. One of our recent initiatives has been our “Reggies” (named for Reg Miller who contributed much to the local) who visit the shut-in and very elderly of our members. We hold five luncheons during the year at the Gorge Vale Golf Club with entertainment for every one. In September, we welcome a number of new retirees. Our October luncheon honours our Scholarship Foundation winners. At our regular October luncheon we continue with our programme of First Nations recognition which we consider very important to our community. We also produce 4 or 5 Bulletins during the year to keep our members up to date on local and provincial issues. We have considered crarting a web site– which may yet occur- and look forward to improving our communication with members. Our goal for the next year is to continue to inform and support our members on issues of concern and to involve more members in the activities of the local.
