North Shore Branch Report 2016

Our Executive and members enjoyed another great year! We organized 3 lunches which included, speakers and fundraising activities. In Sept .we welcomed new retirees and listened to Ron MacQueen on the history of Jazz and raised money and supplies to support the Salvation Army’s Back Pack campaign. At our Christmas lunch money and gifts were collected on behalf of the Xmas Bureau and we were treated to delightful choral music by the Lynmour choir.Linda Watson gave us our annual pension update at our AGM lunch in April and donations were given to the RR Smith fund.We also donated monies for our local scholarship(North Shore Transition Society) and to Chess,Keef and Access, supporting African education. To take advantage of the Federal Gov’t offer to match funds, we also donated monies for the Syrian refugees.A Safety workshop was given in Feb. By a member of the North Van Fire Dept, RCMP and Earthquake Preparedness Committee. We tried to arrange two Enjoy tours to take advantage of their generous donation to the RRSmith fund and accomodation for pick up in North Van.but unfortunately the members did not sign up. Naturally we attended both retirement seminars and retirement teas in the hope of attracting new members. Our newspaper team;Dorothy Robertson,Ron MacQueen and Emily Rummel produced three excellent Clarions this year but two problems have arisen. First Dorothy, our Editor, has “retired” and we have no replacement and secondly too many of our members are still receiving our newsletter by mail, necessitating stuffing and mailing, done mostly by the Executive. Three long standing members of our Executive have finished volunteering this year, after putting in over 20 years of service, and we have no replacements so far. We would like to thank the following who have helped our organization this year;BCRTA and COSCO for great information and sage advise
Silver Harbour Senior Centre for giving us a room for our workshops
West Van School Board for giving the Exec. a meeting room
NVTA for info and technical support
Our retiring members,Dorothy Robertson,Monte MacLachlan and Peter MinshullThe Executive is in the process of scheduling next years’ exciting activities and will continue to encourage others to join our fine organizations.
