BCRTA Policy and Procedures (17.1.0) states that the mission of the Advocacy Committee is to develop materials and strategies that “inform members and encourage them to take a proactive position in support of issues affecting their well-being”.That does not mean to be partisan in political action. It means to identify issues (in our case members/seniors issues) and take positive actions to promote and improve situations. The Advocacy Committee also acts as an advisory body to the Board, its committees and branches when advocacy projects are being considered or undertaken (7.8.2).
In 2013-14, the Advocacy Committee provided funding for the branches that took up the Health and Housing action grants to notify their members and request through Patricia Laursen, Office Administrator and Kristi Josephson, Assistant Administrator for their assistance with projects and contacts. My thanks to Regina Day, JoAnn Lauber, Bob Taverner, Gerry Tiede and President, Cliff Boldt also observer, Stefan Cieslik and Tom Brunker for their help this year for their help this year on the Advocacy Committee in providing leadership to support the rights and welfare of BCRTA members.
