Richard Bulpitt Elementary

(Official opening October 28, 2013)

Official Opening of Richard Bulpitt

Board of Education Chair, Wendy Johnson address to students.

You have heard about Richard Bulpitt, his history, and his wonderful qualities from Superintendent Hoffman.

So what does all that mean for the Richard Bulpitt School Community?  For each and every one of you?

We hope that you will be inspired to be like him, that you will:

  • Value your education; work hard every day.  Think critically and question why things are the way they are.  Become a creative problem solver and find new solutions to old problems.
  • Make a difference by volunteering in your community particularly to help those less fortunate.
  • Provide leadership in your school.  Older students can be big buddies to younger students, help to organize school events, and serve as monitors.
  • Spend more time exploring fine or performing arts.  Find something that you love and devote some time and energy to doing it well.
  • Be courageous, stand up for what you believe in, take on risks and challenges.
  • Support, love and care for your family.  They are the ones who will always be there for you.
  • It means always striving to do your best, to be the best you can be.
  • At the same time, it means taking care of yourself and taking care of each other, always being a good friend.
  • If you can do any of these things, then the memory of this special man and educator will continue to live on and you will be a better person.  And your school will be a wonderful place.

In closing, I would like to thank a few people. Minister of Education, Peter Fassbender, deserves our thanks for his support of our Board of Education and  the completion of this wonderful school with its attached Neighbourhood Learning Centre.  I’d like to thank Minister Polak and Minister Coleman for joining us today.

I would also like to thank Mayor Jack Froese for the support from the Township of Langley and their contribution once again of 5 acres of parkland adjacent to the school.

I’d like to thank our other partners in education, City of Langley Mayor Ted Schaffer and his councilors for being here today.

Thanks to all of you for joining us in this celebration today.

By working together we can accomplish great things.
