2014/2015 Annual Report of Campbell River Retired Teacherds’ Association
As in past years, our members met each month from October to June on the 3rd Thursday of each month with presentations and speakers on a variety of topics for most of these gatherings.
One exception being in September, when we have always met for a ‘NoBell Brunch’ meeting on the first day of school. We gathered at Painters’ Lodge and enjoyed the ocean and wildlife swimming and flying by out in front of the lodge.
October and November lunch meetings were at Banner’s Restaurant in downtown Campbell River.
December’s meeting was the ‘Mistletoe Luncheon’ at the Campbell River Discovery Inn.
January through May meetings were held at Banner’s Restaurant downtown.
Our AGM was at the Driftwood Restaurant for a Chinese buffet lunch.
Due to a lack of a quorum we did not hold our elections, except for attendees to the BCRTA AGM in September.
John Simpson, President
The CRRTA Members met each month from September to June on the third Thursday of each month except September.
On Tuesday September 3rd, we celebrated the 'NoBell Brunch' at Painter's Lodge with a lovely meal and many happy retirees. The weather was especially cooperative with plenty of sun and warmth to look out onto the ocean and see Bald Eagles soaring and boats of all sizes moving up and down the strait.
Our next meeting was for lunch at Banner's Restaurant on October 17th with a delightful presentation of a member's time teaching in Moscow, Russia. With a video and many souvenirs shared, we were all enthralled.
On November 21st, we enjoyed a speaker covering 'Disability Tax Credits' which was a rather popular topic for many of our members at Banner's for lunch.
We next met at Rivercity Theatre for a fascinating tour organized by an executive member followed by lunch at Ricky's Restaurant on Decenber 19th.
January 16th was 'wind-down time' and we gathered for socializing and getting to know new and long-time friends and colleagues.
For February 20, we arranged to have a speaker talk to us at Banners about Seniors' living and a new Senior's Residence being built in the downtown area.
On March 20th, we celebrated the arrival of Spring with a lunch at Banners and speakers on 'Integrated Health' which was well attended and many were enthused about the programmes available in Campbell River.
April 17th was our next lunch meeting with a travel agent sharing a slide show and commentary on travel to Jordan and many of our members were very interested in that trip in the fall.
May 15th was the date of the Tri-District Luncheon with Campbell River hosting at the Salmon Point Restaurant. We had a fine meal and entertainment by a retired teachers Ukelele group who were a great hit with folks from Powell River, Comox Valley, and Campbell River.
June 4th, a cheque was delivered to S.D. #72 office for 3 bursaries of $250.00 each to students in post secondary education.
On June 19th, we held our annual AGM and lunch at the Driftwood Restaurant with recognition of one of our members celebrating her 100th Birthday in late May.
The elections at this meeting resulted in:
Treasurer: Sterling Campbell;
Secretary: Hilary Hansen;
