COSCO is an umbrella organization coordinating over 70 affiliated seniors groups in British Columbia. We plan to highlight individual affiliates in the COSCO News.
The British Columbia Retired Teachers’ Association (BCRTA) is a provincial organization that enables its 15,000 members to speak with one voice about the interests, concerns and wellbeing of retired educators in BC.
BCRTA and COSCO recently joined forces for two major advocacy initiatives. A campaign to “Keep the Heart in Medicare” involved visits to 34 of BC’s 36 MPs to express concern about the expiry of the Health Accord on March 31, 2014 and to urge the negotiation of a new accord. And just recently, in Vancouver in 2015, a joint committee of the BCRTA and COSCO organized a roundtable and public forum to highlight the health care needs of older adults and to inspire “A Declaration Concerning a National Health Care Strategy for Seniors.”
BCRTA was a co-sponsor of the COSCO Conference 2016. Their assistance and participation was greatly appreciated.
We encourage delegates to submit articles highlighting their organization to www.coscobc.org
